In Bruges

Bruges is charming and beautiful!!! Not least because of the wonderful welcome and hospitality we have been receiving at our B&B "De Vijf Zuilen". It is run by the very welcoming Ginette and her husband Patrick (and the gorgeous golden retriever Butler with his happy wagging tail!). We were VERY happy that we decided to spend 2 nights here instead of 1 night in Antwerp which we weren´t overly impressed with!! The one thing I wanted to see (Rubens house) was closed!!! And so were a lot of other places to see! We did spend the afternoon yesterday in Gent though which was lovely - explored Gravasteen Castle, St Bavo`s Cathedral, market places, canals and guildhouses.

Today we were only about 20 mins walk from the town centre of Bruges which was perfect for our exploring Bruges. This was only after we filled our tummys with the best breakfast either of us has seen at a hotel or otherwise!!! (See photo :-))

So we explored the streets and canals of Bruges today.............we went on a canal boat tour (unfortunately I think we chose the ugliest driver!), took lots of photos of the gorgeous houses and shops, relaxed in the market square and wrote some postcards, explored the Gruuthuis Museum, did some shopping (well I did most of it with buying some beautiful German Christmas decorations!) etc etc
We have been enjoying some great sunny weather the last few days so we hope it continues!

Tomorrow we are going to head to Ypres for 2 nights via some of the coast areas.......
