Back home (with my family and car)

36 hours after leaving Geraldton at 9.30am last Sunday I got home. My friends and family have been at the Airport and it didn’t feel like I have been away for 8 months. Still switching the window wipes on in the car when I want to indicate though J

Weather is nice, a lot warmer than in Sydney and its great having homemade dishes for lunch again. It is a bit weird that everybody speaks German everywhere and that I have to look left first before crossing a road but besides it feel perfectly fine being here with my family. Staying at my parents for the first week, visiting friends back in Paderborn next week and finally moving into a friends place in Berlin where I’ll be living for the first 3 months until I’ve found my own apartment.

Australia was great, I had soooo much fun, met many interesting people, made some friends (at least I believe so) and enjoyed myself a lot. I took 2318 pictures, ate almost every typical Australian chocolate and sweets available (thanks to Rob and Karyn) and I’ve seen a few really amazing places and cute animals. Most of you have read about it or been there with me.

Thank you all for sharing the last 8 months of my life. If I ever do it again I want to have you all with me. Hope to see you again sometime and this time maybe in Germany, so I can show you around and treat you like you did with me.

Auf dem Heimflug / On my way home

2 hours stop over in Singapore and I quiet enjoyed the last 5,5 hours flight from Perth. Movies on Demand, tasty in flight food (for a change) and two seats on my own. Good luck for the next bit, 13,5 hours to London. Its only 19 more to go until I'll be back home. At least there is free internet access everywhere around here, so I will have time to work on my final posts :-))

Strandgefluester

Back in Summer

This is a huge thank you for my last days in Sydney and all the people who made them special to me. I had a great last night with you guys and hope to see you all soon back in Europe, this time me being the one knowing where to go and what to see ;-))

Right now I am back in Geraldton for the last week down under and I am enjoying it a lot. We do have nice and warm days. Unfortunately I have sent all my summer clothes back home so I had to buy new shorts and tops. What a shame. Only three more days to go before I kick off back to Berlin.

Pods didn't even make in on the plane, tiny teddies arrived in Perth. Cheers girls.

Last weekend in Town

My last weekend in Sydney is over and I managed to get a few more ticks on the things-to-see-and-do-list. I've been to the Museum of Sydney, Sydney Observatory, Balmain and Watsons Bay and not to forget the Lindt Chocolate Cafe. Last one only because nothing else was open in the city, because it is Sunday night and somebody I know (who came along) really likes hot chocolate.

Rob took me to Wagamama for dinner on Saturday, which is a worldwide restaurant, although they are missing a branch in Germany so far. http://www.wagamama.com.au/ But I highly recommend becoming a frequent noodler, great food. Afterwards we went to the observatory for the Festival of the stars, which could have been great fun, if it would have been more than 6 degrees or at least if the telescopes were inside instead of at the grounds. But we have seen Jupiter in real and 4 of his moons in great 3D animation right in the middle of the room, which is why we look that stupid in the piccie.

Today was the last option to really use a daytripper and safe loads of money. So I kicked off real early to catch a ferry to Balmain (thanks Rob for giving me that idea). I decided that this arty quarter with great views of the city would be my suburb, if I'd be living here. A really peaceful place 10min away from the city. Cute little houses, huge expensive places and the whole area surrounded by water. Great place to be and they even have a business I could take over immediatly (Marios idea), Cafe Berlin.

After taking the alternative route by bus back to the city I got on another ferry to go to Watsons Bay. By this time it rained already and didn't stop for the rest of the day. But this didn't stop me from exploring 'The Gap' national park, great landscape, just around the harbour. Should have done that in summer, but still glad I've been there. Now I am back home and having German bread for dinner. And this is why, this post now ends. Off for my last week at the east coast and the German version of this post.

By the way...

...never try to get out of town past 11.30pm, if there is a storm going on.

I spent a lovely evening in the Orbit Bar on the 46th floor on Australia Sqaure (Hi Garry) and ended up stuck in the city because the storm had blown of powerlines on Harbour Bridge and all trains in my direction weren't going. As I couldn't be asked to spent 60 bucks on a cab I thought of taking a bus. Pretty good idea, although I had no clue which bus or which stop I would have to go. Called Rob, got the information I needed, only to miss the 520 by minutes. Asked another bus driver, he took me to circular quay only to find out that the one I missed in fact was the last one going.

So the friendly bus driver came up with the option to take me on his last tour to Rhyde to get a least closer to Westmead and catch a cap from there. He even offered to give me a ride home after his shift had finished. Not a good idea thought Rob (so did I), so I got off in Gladesville and he picked me up there. I got home by 1am, safe and happy. THANKS TO ROB.

Blue Mountains Take II

After the first 3 days working with Ian (he only yelled at me once :-)) I desperately needed a break from Weidmuller and Merrin, Karyn, Rob and I took off for another trip to the blue mountains.

Intending to go for hikes all day we left Sydney in the morning at sunny 17 degrees. On the way we could look at the thermometer slowly decreasing on our way up. So arriving in Leura at about 6 degrees, we did not have any other chance than just take seats in Josophan's Chocolate cafe. Spending 2 hours with one really healthy lunch (according to the waitress) inluding Mexican Chocolate Cake, Flourless Chocolate Cake, Hot Chocolates, Waffles and Strawberris, Scones and heaps of drizzled chocolate from the chocolate fountain we decided afterwards that we should go for a walk.

We took another look at Wentworthfalls, this time I could actually see the water. Unfortunately it didn't seem to warm up so we went to the Norman Lindsay Gallery, as this would be inside. I have heard about Albert, The Magic Pudding and the opposite side of Norman's art, his nude sculptures and paintings. Like both I have to admit.

Coming back to Sydney Ian was allowed to meet us again and we all go for Ten Pin Bowling. I was beaten big time in the first game, Rob kindly explained it with being on the other side of the world. I finally found my form back a little and came in third in the second game. It was a really enjoyable evening as they played song of the eighties all night long and we could dance as well. Chicken Dance Take II in less than a week.

Have to go out dancing first weekend back home, so prepare yourselves...
