Memphis

Graceland war die erste Enttäuschung bisher. Das Gelände hat mehr Shops als Sachen zum Anschauen. Und so viele Menschen wie auf dem Gelände waren bisher nirgendwo unterwegs. Das Ganze ist sowas von einer Gelddruckmaschine....schade.

Graceland is a rip-off, there are more shops for merchandising than actual things to see. Go there if you are a Fan, otherwise, just skip it. Haven't seen this many old people at one place in years. Bus-loads full of retired Elvis Fans waiting in line to see 6 rooms of a two story building.

Memphis selbst war abgesehen von der Beale Street sehr ruhig. Wenig grün in der Innenstadt, aber dafür umso mehr direkt am Mississippi. Und ein Drachenbootrennen gab es auch. Allerdings war ich bei ca. 30 Grad froh, nicht paddeln zu müssen, sondern einfach in der Sonne sitzen zu können...

Memphis itself is a lovely city, with lots of green areas right at the river. Mud Island River Park is fantastic to spend hours just hanging around. There was a dragonboat contest going on and heaps of entertainment going on. Not much going on in the city center though except from Beale Street and the Peabody Hotel.

Check this out!! Da waren schon 1 Stunde vor Beginn sämtliche anwesenden Touristen versammelt. Seit 75 Jahren wird jeden Tag dieselbe Zeremonie abgehalten, morgens und abends...witzig.
